The first trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 3 has finally been released, and it includes some big reveals, as well as some subtle teases, like the origin of the Sparrow Academy. With the rise of the superhero genre, darker stories have made the jump from the comic book pages to other media, as is the case of The Umbrella Academy. Created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy arrived on Netflix in 2019 and became an instant success, and it’s now preparing for its third season.
Leading The Umbrella Academy is the title team, formed by seven kids adopted and trained by scientist and billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves who went their separate ways as time passed and reunited years later to stop the apocalypse. Unable to prevent the end of the world, the Hargreeves time-traveled to 1960s Dallas, Texas, where they successfully stopped a second apocalypse – however, when they finally returned to their present (2019), they were received with a major reveal: their team doesn’t exist, and Reginald instead adopted six other kids (and the original team's Ben) and formed The Sparrow Academy.

Just like the Umbrella team, the members of the Sparrow Academy have unique superpowers, and while brief descriptions of each character have already been revealed, there’s still a lot to learn about them and the extent of their powers. The first trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 3 gave a brief look at what some of the Sparrows can do, among those Fei’s (Britne Oldford) powers related to birds that look a lot like the ones in this season’s promo material, and this could be a hint at the origin of the name of the Sparrow Academy.
