GPU vendor Gigabyte may have leaked details about Nvidia’s next desktop graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 4070 and RTX 4060.
Nvidia itself hasn’t mentioned anything about the products, except to say they’ll arrive down the line. However, Gigabyte threw in both product names in the release notes for Gigabyte Control Center, the software app to calibrate the RGB lighting for its PC components.
The release notes(Opens in a new window) say Gigabyte Control Center now features default color support for the “GV-N4070AERO OC-12GD” and “GV-N4060GAMING OC-8GD products.” As you can see, the same listing points out the memory capacity for the white-colored Aero(Opens in a new window) RTX 4070 is at 12GB of video memory while the 4060 will come equipped with 8GB.
The release notes suggest both graphics cards are on the horizon; current rumors(Opens in a new window) say the GeForce RTX 4070 will launch on April 13. The RTX 4070 looks like it’ll have the same memory capacity as the RTX 4070 Ti, which arrived in January with 12GB of GDDR6X RAM. However, the 4070 is expected to have fewer CUDA computing cores at 5,888, compared to 7,680 found in the more powerful Ti sibling.
Outside of performance, the big question facing the RTX 4070 is cost. The current crop of RTX 4000 cards currently span $799 up to over $1,599 in price—or as much as a single PC. Hence, the products have faced criticism from gamers for being too expensive.
In addition, sales for the RTX 4000 have fallen far behind compared to the last generation’s RTX 3000 series. So the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 could help drum up sales for Nvidia, but only if consumers are convinced they’re a good deal.
