JD Fenix voice actor Liam McIntyre has teased the possibility of Gears of War 6 finally being revealed in June. It has been almost five years since the last game in the franchise was released, and there is reason to believe that Gears of War 6 may finally be on the way.
Gamers have been extremely patient in the wait for Gears of War 6, with a five-year gap matching the longest previous time between mainline releases in the series. Recently, multiple insiders have rumored that a Gears of War 6 announcement could be coming this summer, although that doesn't necessarily mean that the long-awaited title will be released this year. In fact, those same rumors suggest that the upcoming Gears of War title could go on to become a launch title for the next Xbox console generation, which would suggest that the game is some time away yet.
Liam McIntyre, who has played the role of JD Fenix since 2016's Gears of War 4, confirmed on Twitter that he has «no idea» what is happening to his character, although he expects that The Coalition «tells us all in June.» McIntyre's answer has some interesting implications. If he has truly no idea what the future holds for his character, it suggests that The Coalition has yet to contact him about a return. It remains to be seen if The Coalition decides to make a definitive decision between the two for the next Gears of War game.
McIntyre not being involved at this stage doesn't necessarily cement anything about his character, one way or the other. While he was the primary protagonist of Gears of War 4, the story of Gears 5 took a new direction, focusing on Kait Diaz as the main character. A reveal of Gears of War 6 could certainly happen without using the character of JD Fenix, with The Coalition instead waiting to reveal his fate to players.
