Xbox announced the date of its upcoming June showcase and teased a special deep-dive to reveal a new installment of a “beloved franchise.” This announcement has led to a whirlwind of speculation among players, who are waiting for more information about which game Xbox will unveil during its next showcase.
In the past few years, Microsoft has been acquiring a large variety of studios. From Sea of Thieves developer Rare to Minecraft’s Mojang and Bethesda, Xbox now owns some of the most prominent game studios. Microsoft purchased Activision-Blizzard-King for a staggering $68.7 billion in January 2022, adding various titles such as Call of Duty, Candy Crush Saga, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch to its portfolio.
Xbox confirmed that its next Games Showcase will air on June 9 at 10am PT / 1pm ET. On top of unveiling the upcoming games coming out on Xbox, this Xbox Games Showcase will be immediately followed by another livestream focusing on the new installment of a popular gaming franchise. This showcase will be the first one to feature games from Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios, on top of the games from Xbox’s third-party partners.
While Xbox hasn’t officially stated which popular game franchise will get a new installment, rumors are growing about the potential games featured in this Xbox Games Showcase. Fans are expecting the reveal of Gears of War 6. Others expect a closer look at Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, as well as the confirmation of when Call of Duty games will join Xbox Game Pass. Another game that could get its own showcase is State of Decay 3, the zombie game whose release date remains a mystery.
