Frostpunk 2 isn't far away, with the planned release date set as September 20, 2024. It was announced in a new video yesterday that Frostpunk 2 will be launching with official mod support, with the tool being called FrostKit. The tool will be in beta version when the game is officially released, and they will continue to work on it and optimize it for players to use.
The Frostpunk 2 mod support will allow those who want to utilize their creative energy to create new maps and scenarios, which has been something that fans have wanted to do since the dawn of Frostpunk. The developers have stated in their announcement that "the original game and in-house engine had limitations preventing us from making it happen," but they have since swapped over to Unreal Engine for the sequel.

By using FrostKit, players will be able to make their own maps and populate them with custom models, as well as create their own custom scenarios, allowing players to toy with ancient, cosmic, and post-apocalyptic themes.
As the tool will be releasing in beta, some parts of the FrostKit will not be available to players right off the bat, but for the vast majority, players will be able to access all of the tools they need to customize their game how they like. As time goes on, FrostKit will be expanded upon and improved by getting feedback from the players that utilize the tool.
To ensure that FrostKit will be ready for the launch day of Frostpunk 2, it will first be released in open beta to specific members of the dedicated modding community to ensure that everything is up and running as it should be, and to get valuable feedback which will help them make any necessary tweaks and changes before the game fully
