Beloved entries like and are still played a decade plus after their releases due to mods. Some can be as simple as graphical upgrades, while others add entire new storylines for players to enjoy. The argument could be made a part of the positivity of many Bethesda games comes from the community's ability to create these experiences.
The largest issue with modding in was the small index size, which limited how many mods could be used at once. There were two main issues with this, one being the small size, which only allowed around 255 mods if one was lucky. However, the other was reportedly a bug that made mods take up more space than needed. So, in actuality, most players were only able to get a little over 100 mods to fit at any time.
This type of issue is a killer in any game like this where mods add so much replayability, but even more so in which needed extra help from the community. Many mods were crucial to help overcome graphical issues or aid in quality-of-life features that were not or never will be in the game. This limited index size and bug forced players to pick and choose which mods were more important, and the bigger a mod was, the more space it took up.
Luckily, not only has this new patch, which is currently only in beta for Steam users, fixed this bug, but has also increased the index size to 4500. This should allow for thousands of options, including essential mods, to be used at once.
