With Patch 11.0.5 a few weeks off, it is time to look at one of the major benefits of race changing to Dracthyr: Glide. Is it worth race-changing your main?
In case you missed it, with Patch 11.0.5, the following classes will be able to be Dracthyr:
With this development, Tail Swipe became an Evoker-only ability. Non-Evoker Dracthyr still have access to:
For Evokeres, Glide is an 80% move speed increase, which is massive. For non-Evokers, however, this increase has been reduced to 43%.
This means an Evoker gliding is 25% faster than a non-Evoker gliding, with 180% run speed vs 143% run speed.
Note that this movement speed value has changed a couple of times between PTR builds, but 43% increase is the current value.
Below we've made a short video showing the difference between normal run speed versus Dracthyr gliding, both Evokers and non-Evokers.
To put in perspective, even with this reduction, Glide is still faster than many classes' run speed increases like Priest's Body and Soul/Angelic Feather or Hunter's Trailblazer.
Even with the reductions, it is crucial to remember that Glide can also cancel knockback effects, which is incredibly helpful in many circumstances. Priests is the class that struggles the most with knockback effects, and now they have the option to go Dracthyr. With that, you can say that Patch 11.0.5 brings Priests incredible mobility improvements.
Another benefit of Glide is that it allows you to, well, glide! This means you won't take fall damage. For classes that usually can have deadly encounters with gravity like Warlocks or Warriors, being a Dracthyr can save your life!
