Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's creative director, Tetsuya Nomura, has revealed that the first draft of the final game in the Remake trilogy's story has already been completed.
It's only been a year and a half since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was first announced, but it's certainly felt a lot longer than that since Remake launched all the way back in 2020. As excited as most fans are to finally get to reunite with Cloud and spend hundreds of hours in Rebirth's game world, it seems that the developers are already looking ahead to the third and final game in the trilogy.
As reported by Twitter user aitaikimochi, Tetsuya Nomura and several other developers on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth recently spoke to Famitsu about the game's impending release. Although most of the focus was, as you'd expect, on Rebirth, there were some questions about the third and final game in the trilogy, which were surprisingly answered.
During the interview, Nomura revealed that the first draft of the main storyline for Final Fantasy 7 Remake's third entry has already been completed but that there is "much to be done" on the game still. Don't go expecting to see it any time soon after Rebirth launches, but it seems like the main plot has already been set in motion.
This isn't the only planning for the third game that's been done, either, as Nomura also revealed while talking to Famitsu that airships are going to be introduced in the next game .
After Nomura noted that work on the third game is already underway, Rebirth's producer, Yoshinori Kitase, said that the trilogy's main writer, Kazushige Nojima, has submitted a complete outline for the game for the team to follow and that it's up to them to make a reality. Kitase also said that he and Nomura are there to supervise the process and provide ideas for it.
During the interview, Rebirth's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, also noted that he prefers if the story in the Remake trilogy is taken care of by developers who worked on the original game like Nomura,
