Final Fantasy XIVis recovering from another round of DDoS attacks that affected the game again over the weekend.
Word of a new round of attacks came on Friday, when the team released an initial announcement at 7:16 p.m. PDT about login difficulties and disconnects from the North American, European, and Oceanic regions. On Saturday, they announced an end to the attack and a recovery phase, During which they would continue to monitor everything. Then they announced another attack.
In that update last night, at 5:26 p.m. PDT they announced once again, that there was a DDoS attack, this time affecting all worlds and regions. The most recent update came this morning and it was another announcement that things had been resolved and the team was overseeing a recovery from the latest rounds of attacks last night.
There is already scheduled maintenance today, and tomorrow will start another year of The Rising anniversary event. That maintenance is set for tonight at 8:00 p.m. PDT and will be completed overnight, so if they need to do any other work to keep things safe and secure, it's very likely that they will handle that tonight.
Final Fantasy XIV is, unfortunately, no stranger to DDoS attacks, but given the experience that the team has had in fighting back, things do tend to recover more quickly and we anticipate tomorrow's update to be on as scheduled.
