Earlier this year, Square Enix brought Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox Series X/S, expanding the already successful MMORPG’s player base even more, and it seems like the company wants to keep that doing by bringing the game to more platforms still. We are, of course, referring specifically to Nintendo.
Speaking in a recent interview with Game Reactor, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that Square Enix is “working towards”, “having discussions” about, and “making progress” with Final Fantasy 14 on “Nintendo’s consoles”.
“I’m sure that all of the media and our players probably suspecting they really want to have our game release on Nintendo’s consoles, but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy 14 is to release our game on as many devices as possible,” Yoshida said. “So looking towards achieving that goal. We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come.”
Yoshida did not specifically mention which Nintendo platform Square Enix is looking to bring the MMORPG to, which would suggest that he isn’t talking about the Switch, but its upcoming successor (if not both, perhaps).
Interestingly, leaks have claimed that a standalone mobile version of Final Fantasy 14is also in development in collaboration with Tencent. The same was seemingly approved for release in China earlier this month.
Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC.
