After the release of Earthbound on Nintendo Switch for Nintendo Switch Online users, Nintendo has shared the original player guide for Earthbound from the '90s. Earthbound is a quirky JRPG originally released in 1994 and has become a cult classic. It is the second game in what is known as the Mother series in Japan.
BecauseEarthbound has not been available in the United States while being available in Japan, it hasn't enjoyed the same popularity or success, but over the years has become a fan favorite. The first game of the Earthbound series known as Mother or Earthbound Beginnings didn't even have a typical release outside of Japan. The popularity of Earthbound has inspired modern computer RPGs like Undertale, Deltarune, and Omori. In these games, the hero is a child (like Earthbound's Ness) responsible for defeating evil in the modern world blended with fantasy and science fiction.

Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings (but not Mother 3) were added to the NES and SNES apps on Nintendo Switch on February 9 and while fans were disappointed that the third game was not included, they were ecstatic to find the original player guide for Earthbound was. According to Nintendo Life, the over 100-page guide can be found in the Nintendo Switch Online app or underneath the 'News' tab on the Switch. The guide can be downloaded for free in PDF form or is available on Nintendo's website.
