Diablo 4 isn't even officially out yet, and already someone has picked up the gauntlet thrown down by developer Blizzard and slapped the world with it. The company, in their hubris, declared that the first 1000 players to reach level 100 on Hardcore mode (permadeath) would have their names immortalised, carved into the stone of a statue of antagonist Lillith… which will likely end up haunting the lobby or something.
Available since the 2nd in Early Access, streamer cArn_ (along with an elite squad, the members of which on track to occupy the second, third, and fourth spots) has already become the first player to reach level 100, announcing the victory on Twitter. In this moment of glory, he ascended still further, confirmed as GOAT by Diablo community director Adam Fletcher.
cArn_ achieved the feat while playing as a Barbarian, the class deemed weakest by many in pre-release beta testing. Blizzard apparently disagreed with that assessment, nerfing the berserker still further in a recent patch. For context, Blizzard estimated getting to max level would take 150 hours, and with the infernal race beginning on the 2nd of June, that's a heroic (if medically inadvisable) effort, no doubt.
Let this feat serve as an example of two things; you should never let the haters get you down, and Barb is good, actually. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
