Based on the popular Friday the 13th movie franchise, Friday the 13th: The Game was released back in 2017. Due to its license expiring, Friday the 13th: The Game was delisted from all major gaming platforms at the end of 2023.
Now, Friday the 13th Resurrected will mark the franchise’s return to Steam as a fan-made, free-to-play game. The project was originally announced back in February, and it was recently revealed that its official release date will be unveiled on April 15, 2024. Overall, Friday the 13th Resurrected intends to offer an experience faithful to the popular horror game. It’s essentially a modded version that will have a rooster full of exclusive fan-created content such as new characters, but it will maintain the gameplay elements that fans of the series are used to.
While Friday the 13th: The Game can not be purchased anymore, the game is still playable. The developers promised that Friday the 13th: The Game’s servers would remain online until the end of 2024. With this fan-made release, though, gamers will be able to keep playing from 2025 onwards. Considering that Friday the 13th: The Game was hailed as one of the best asymmetrical multiplayer games in the horror genre, fans will likely be glad that the fan project will continue its legacy.
