It’s not controversial to say that Death Stranding is not a game for everyone, but Kojima Productions’ open world title has, nonetheless, continued to attract a healthy number of players ever since its launch in 2019. It has, in fact, crossed another major milestone on that front.
In a post on the official Kojima Productions website announcing the studio’s collaboration with A24 for the upcoming Death Stranding film, the developer has revealed that the game has been played by over 16 million players to date.
That number includes sales across PS5, PS4, and PC, as well as players that jumped into the game through PlayStation Plus and PC Game Pass access. At last count, it stood at 10 million players across all platforms in November last year, so it has maintained steady momentum on that front.
A sequel to Death Strandingis also currently in development for PS5, though there’s no word on when it will release. Kojima Productions is also working on the Xbox-exclusive horror title OD in collaboration with Hollywood director Jordan Peele.
