The DC Extended Universe's Black Canary star Jurnee Smollett congratulates Batgirl movie star Leslie Grace on the upcoming filming wrap. Smollett made her debut in Warner Bros.' comic book franchise with 2020's Birds of Prey as Dinah Laurel Lance, a singer at the club owned by Ewan McGregor's Roman Sionis who is uninterested in crime fighting after her mother was killed while working as a Gotham City Police Department informant. However, when teenage pickpocket Cassandra Cain inadvertently comes under Sionis' crosshairs, she must use her genetic hypersonic scream powers to protect her from the dangerous mob boss, putting her on the path to becoming the vigilante known as Black Canary.
Grace is leading the cast of Batgirl as Barbara Gordon, daughter to GCPD Commissioner Jim Gordon as she becomes a police officer but eventually elects to fight the crime as the titular vigilante. Alongside Grace, the roster for the DCEU film includes J.K. Simmons reprising his role of Gordon from both versions of Justice League, Brendan Fraser as the villainous Firefly, Michael Keaton continuing his role of Bruce Wayne/Batman from The Flash and Ivory Aquino as Barbara's best friend Alysia Yeoh. Following a bumpy development, filming on Batgirl finally kicked off in November and now exciting news is coming from those involved.
