LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga brings all nine episodes that make up the Star Wars mainline movie franchise, allowing players to start their journey at Episode I — The Phantom Menace and play all the way to the ending of Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker. The game doesn't include any of the Star Wars stories outside the nine movies at launch, but seven DLC packs will be released for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga over the coming months, adding content from The Mandalorian, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

There are over 300 characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga with all the fan-favorites included, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Chewbacca, and Yoda. Many of the characters feature numerous versions of them, with Obi-Wan Kenobi featuring designs based on Ewan McGregor and his evolving hairstyles and Alec Guinness — he played the Jedi Master in the original trilogy.
