Vulture has been a big part of Morbius' marketing, but Jared Leto's Marvel movie needs Tom Hardy's Venom more than Michael Keaton's villain. As the third film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, Morbius is part of the studio's plan to expand the franchise Venom began in 2018. Throughout the development and promotion of the movie, there have been plenty of questions about what other Marvel characters could appear. While Sony has put its focus on Vulture's involvement, Venom is much more important to Morbius.
From the moment the first Morbius trailer arrived, questions arose about which Marvel universe it existed in. The marketing has referenced Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man's Oscorp, the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Vulture, and the Venom franchise. Sony narrowed the focus as the marketing went on and has relied heavily on Michael Keaton's return as Adrian Toomes. However, rumors continue to swirl that Tom Hardy's Venom could also be in Morbius too.

Despite the attention Michael Keaton's return has received, Morbius needs Venom much more than Vulture. The movie squarely exists in the same cinematic universe as the Venom franchise, as the marketing has even referenced the symbiotic hero. Venom is the biggest star of Sony's Spider-Man villain universe and should be the connective tissue between the various films. This can allow Sony to build its own cinematic universe and explore how these different characters and movies impact each other.
