Alright morbheads, it's time we came clean: Morbius is really, really bad. No, I'm not just saying that because I'm bitter that I was kicked out of the official Morbius Discord server after I reported on it being overrun by trolls. Well, I am, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's not going down well if fans and critics alike, as many are left wondering what the studio was going for with its second Spider-Man villain franchise.
One of the biggest disappointments was that the film barely tied into Spider-Man at all, despite the trailer prominently featuring both the web-slinger himself and one of his MCU villains, Vulture. Now, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa has made everything even more confusing in an interview, admitting that neither of the characters were intended to feature in the film's plot at all, even though they were teased.

In an interview with Insider, Espinosa was pushed on why the trailer made it appear that Michael Keaton's Vulture - the same one from Spider-Man Homecoming - would play an important role in Morbius.
"He never existed in the plot of the movie. He never had a part", Espinosa answers. "But the idea of having Michael Keaton in the movie came back before we even shot the movie. It was really related to showing off the Spider-Verse."
Similarly, in an interview with Uproxx, the director tried to explain why on earth Morbius would agree to team up with Vulture to take on Spider-Man, when he has no beef with the superhero right now.
"Vulture is not a criminal in that universe just yet", said Espinosa. "In [Morbius'] world, Spider-Man exists. In all the different Marvel timelines, you have a Spider-Man". Espinosa
