Covenant Child, an upcoming blockchain MMORPG with a play-to-earn model, has begun a global open beta.
The game, from Korean devs, Covenant Labs, is an MMORPG set on a continent called Nubila, where humans, demons, spirits, and fairies all live. You create a character and go on what sounds like a typical MMORPG quest to reclaim the territory and save the day. Along the way, adventure with your party, enhance and level your heroes, explore the world, create villages together, and more. The game also features an idle mode and a hero Gacha system.
The open beta began last week on Android, and the mobile game promises a few improvements, including new additions to their VIP system and hero progression, the Gacha system and the addition of a battle pass system. These, the company says, were added to appeal to a global audience.
The play to earn blockchain elements come into play through things like NFTs and token rewards, including the addition of P2P NFT trading on the marketplace. The game’s token is called COVN: “COVN is a Governance token that maintains the game ecosystem, and players are able to build collective networks (DAO Guilds) to influence the developmental direction and share the profits of Covenant Child. COVN is used over several facets of the game ecosystem including the VIP System, NFT Marketplace, and Staking Services.”
There’s an infographic and more detailson the game’s website explaining the different potential interactions when it comes to the revenue share and sales elements.
Interestingly, Covenant Labs grew out from city integration platform CityLabs, which had been in business as a manufacturing business for 40 years. The company sought a new, technological path, which included blockchain.
