Oldschool indie Monsters & Memories, released a list of comprehensive updates for November and December 2023. These updates, as detailed on the game's website, showcase significant progress in various aspects of gameplay, art, and technical improvements.
November and December for Niche Worlds Cult saw Monsters & Memories come together with plenty of strides made, including a successful playtest. The team posted a new song for the Sungreet Strand zone, and gave some significant time to artistic development, which has been a major focus for the team as they aim to enhance the visuals of the game. In the update posted, the devs introduced female ogres and a female gnome character, along with refined player customization options including eye color and eyebrow features.
They showcased some of the changes they’ve made to the world as well, with great strides in environment art. They also introduced new props in Night Harbor, implemented new material technology, and improved lighting and textures to heighten the game's visual appeal.
These changes are certainly welcome, as the indie game has somewhat of a dated look, but the visual enhancements will go a long way to provide a more modern visual style for a decidedly old-school game.
On the design front, Monsters & Memories has updates their content with additional quests, items, and non-player characters in the Night Harbor area, providing players with more immersive and challenging experiences. The updates also include balance adjustments and itemization changes. For instance, the modification of mob regeneration rates and the introduction of new abilities and traits offer a more nuanced and strategic approach to combat and character development.
