The second new job coming to Final Fantasy 14 as part of the Dawntrail expansion has been revealed. When the new update drops, we'll be able to play as Pictomancers, a DPS class that performs magical-based, ranged attacks. As the name suggests, we will indeed attack with a huge paintbrush.
Pictomancer will be an available job as soon as the Dawntrail update goes live this summer, although we still don't have an exact release date for this. Still, just the idea of a Pictomancer is enough to excite fans, who have quickly made many jokes about how wonderfully ridiculous it all is.
As you can see in the reveal trailer, the Pictomancer attacks by drawing the spells they want to cast. Of course, this has fans hoping we can draw our own spells as players, although it doesn't seem like we'll be trusted with that power. And given all the suggestions fans have for spells, that's probably for the best.
Back to the point, Square Enix has since expanded on Pictomancers further, saying that they can also craft "creatures and weapons". This will apparently take some time to prepare, so Pictomancers will also have some instant attacks to use if they need to deal some damage in a pinch.
But however Pictomancers end up being used in battle, players are already loving the job, making a bunch of jokes about it as soon as the announcement came in.
And yes, there are already jokes about a Pictomancer being an NSFW artist. Because of course there are.
The Pictomancer is the second job confirmed for the Dawntrail expansion. The first was Viper, another DPS, and a dual wielder who was revealed last October. Both mechanically and aesthetically, the two classes are incredibly different from one another, so there's plenty of variety here.
