The massively popular free-to-play mobile game Clash of Clans is getting a new season challenge, this time introducing the Miner Queen skin. This content drop is one of many arriving to the world-famous live-service city-builder, with recent updates adding new features, cosmetics, and unlockables to the game. Season challenges are a part of this broader live-service model, with recent challenges bringing popular Shadow skins to Clash of Clans.
Despite releasing on iOS and Android devices back in 2012, Clash of Clans has gotten no shortage of new content in recent years. The mobile game is centered primarily on strategy and slow, incremental city growth, with each gameplay incentive informing and influencing the other. Not unlike other successful live-service games like Fortnite, Clash of Clans developer Supercell opted to introduce a Gold Pass to the game in the spring of 2019. Through this pass, players can unlock additional rewards, skins, and other bonuses for their town in exchange for a $5 monthly fee. Thanks to this system, Supercell is able to cycle the content of the game for premium users, while non-paying players still get to enjoy significant changes to Clash of Clans' gameplay features over time.
