Cities: Skyline fans have eagerly been awaiting the sequel ever since it was first announced at the start of the year but, like a lot of PC games in 2023, it's come in rather hot. The first game was infamous for having performance issues and that sadly hasn't gone away for the sequel, which has caused the game to sit at a "Mixed" score on Steam, despite most players seeming happy with its gameplay improvements.
Reviews of Cities: Skyline 2 on Steam point to the game's performance problems starting around about the time you get more than 5,000 citizens. Which, in a game that lets you get many more than that, won't take long at all.
Although the poor performance could be due to any number of things, one Redditor launched an investigation into the issues and claimed that they'd found what was causing some of the biggest issues - the citizen's strangely detailed teeth. According to Hexcoder0's investigations, each of the citizens in the game have individual teeth that are rendered in detail, even if the player is zoomed out. If this is the case, then cities with tons of pedestrians, each with detailed teeth being rendered at all times, are going to cause the game to chug.
That theory gained some momentum over the past day or so, but it's one that the developers have been quick to shut down.
