Little is known about Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming adaptation, but according to a new report, the film will be his priciest venture to date.
In a recent TheInSneider report from Jeff Sneider, the leaker noted that — although the exact figure is unclear — he has been told that The Odyssey will be “the most expensive film of Nolan’s career.” Although the figure is unknown, Nolan’s most expensive film to date, by estimates, is 2012’s The Dark Knight, which had a gross budget of $250-300 million.
Depending on how expensive The Odyssey becomes, it could come close to being one of the most expensive films ever made. Currently, 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens holds that designation, with a reported budget of upwards of $440 million.
Nolan’s The Odyssey will release in the United States theaters on July 17, 2026, from Universal Pictures.
“Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology,” Universal said about the upcoming film. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”
Previously, it was announced that Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway would all also star in the upcoming project. Early reports suggest that Pattinson, Damon, Holland, and Hathaway will make up “the core leads” of the movie. Lupita Nyong’o and Zendaya, both of whom were recently reported to be in the project, will also have supporting roles in some degree, as will Charlize Theron.
