OpenAI released its trending ChatGPT app on iOS in the United States a few days ago. The app has made astonishing progress in its first week of availability and the results are evident. Despite the app being solely available for iOS users in the United States, ChatGPT secured almost half a million downloads in less than a week. According to research conducted by data.ai, OpenAI's ChatHPT app accumulated almost half a million downloads in its first 6 days of availability (via TechCrunch). This is a massive start for a new app which makes it one of the most popular apps this year as well as the previous year. ChatGPT took its sweet time to make its way to the App Store officially. We have seen countless clones and other AI apps on the platform that claim to serve the same purpose to a certain extent. Additionally, these apps took advantage of OpenAI"s absence and the running demand for AI chatbots.
Despite these hurdles, ChatGPT managed to secure its spot as one of the highest-performing apps on the App Store. The App Store also housed apps that misled users to opt for a subscription to make use of AI information. ChatGPT's success even crossed Microsoft's Bing and Edge apps that housed GPT-4 integration. Take note that Bing and Edge apps from Microsoft topped the charts if we take into account all downloads in the United States. However, judging based on iOS installs only, ChatGPT takes the lead.
