Call of Duty fans who have got their hands on Modern Warfare 3's campaign mode early all seem to unanimously hate the new open mission design, with some even saying that it feels like Warzone's DMZ with cutscenes.
Modern Warfare 3 might not officially be out until November 10, but Activision decided that it'd be a good idea to let players who pre-ordered the game get early access to the campaign mode. Ignoring the fact that it makes the story mode feel like little more than an afterthought and about as important as weapon and operator skins, that plan has backfired pretty heavily as it seems nearly everyone has nothing but bad things to say.
Although reactions to the campaign mode seem to be universally negative right now, Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer does seem to have fared better during its open beta tests, with some players jumping straight back to what they were doing in 2011.
Most of the reactions to Modern Warfare 3's campaign can be found over on the Call of Duty subreddit, where it becomes clear incredibly quickly just how unhappy fans are with the game. Many of the posts are roasting the mode's short length, with a lot of players saying that it took them between three and four hours to beat, while others are calling out the downgrade in graphics between the second and third Modern Warfare.
Although there are a ton of different posts complaining about different aspects of Modern Warfare 3's campaign, one of the most popular threads from Redditor KarmaPolice10 sums it up nicely. In the post, KarmaPolice10 says that the open campaign missions are just a cover for laziness, don't have the same epic scale as the last few games, and that the story mode is "basically solo DMZ masquerading as a campaign".
