is now gearing up for a second season, with a release date already set for the hit sports anime series’ return.
Based on the popular manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, the anime series follows young football players from across Japan as they join an intense training program in order to help them strike victory.
The release date announcement comes after Blue Lock the Movie – Episode Nagi debuted back in April, with its US theatrical debut scheduled for June 28 release. The anime movie is adapted from one of the manga’s popular spin-offs.
Earlier this year, the smash-hit anime series was revealed to be eyeing a fall premiere as part of its 2024 fall anime lineup. Now, according to the anime’s official website, Blue Lock Season 2 will start airing on October 5, 2024. It will consist of 14 episodes, airing on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. on IMAnimation in Japan. All previous episodes are available to watch on Crunchyroll. An English localization and release have not been announced.
In addition to the release date, new characters will be joining to stand in Kiyoshi and the Blue Lock members’ way. This includes U-20 Japan national team captain Oliva Aizora (Satoshi Hino) and U-20 Japan national team ace Akito Sendou (Akihisa Wakayama).
The English synopsis for Blue Lock reads: “After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan’s team struggles to regroup. But what’s missing? An absolute Ace Striker who can guide them to victory. The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match. And to do so, they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players. Who will emerge to lead the team? And will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?”
