has been tapped to star in, a new Netflix thriller movie directed by Touch’s Baltasar Kormákur.
Apex is a new thriller movie written by Jeremy Robbins that is about a rock climber who finds herself being hunted while she’s out in the wild.
Per Deadline, Theron is in final negotiations to star in Apex, while Kormákur is in final negotiations to direct the film. Theron will also produce Apex alongside Kormákur, Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono, AJ Dix, Ian Bryce, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready.
Deadline describes the film’s script as 2018’s Free Solo meets 1991’s Silence of the Lambs.
“Netflix execs were so blown away by the script that they bought with only the producers on board. When it came to an actor and director, Theron and Kormakur were their first choices and in another rare case both committed after reading the script,” Deadline’s article notes.
Theron previously starred in 2020’s The Old Guard and 2022’s The School for Good and Evil for Netflix. She’ll also appear in the upcoming sequel to The Old Guard, The Old Guard 2, which does not yet have an official release date.
Kormákur previously directed 2012’s Contraband, 2013’s 2 Guns, 2015’s Everest, 2018’s Adrift, and 2022’s Beast. His latest film, Touch, is currently playing in United States theaters and stars Egill Ólafsson, Kōki, and Palmi Kormakur.
