After last week’s start to Diablo 4 – The Season of Malignant and the accompanying outrage surrounding update v1.1.0a, Blizzard will preview Diablo 4 patch v.1.1.1 with a campfire chat before it goes live.
The Diablo 4 Campfire Chat will be held tomorrow, 28th July, at 7PM BST (11am PDT) on Diablo’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
The stream will be hosted by game director Joe Shely and others who will discuss planned class balance changes, quality of life improvements and other changes. There will also be a community Q&A section at the end of the stream.
While there will be trepidation, this is still a very positive, immediate change of process after the way last week’s update was rolled out, where the patch notes only came alongside the update being pushed live. As that update immediately drew criticism from players for the way that it altered character classes and “nerfed” certain builds, rewards, activities and more.
In reaction to this, Blizzard held a Campfire Chat last Friday to candidly address this reaction. During this Blizzard’s associate director of community Adam Fletcher said, “We know it is bad. We know it is not fun…” as he acknowledged that a game update making players less powerful was not going to be good. Despite admitting that the update’s intention was to slow players down so they couldn’t race through the season’s new content, they insistent that they were trying to “make the game more fun”, in part by extending its longevity. The unintended consequence of slowing things down is making players feel less powerful and rewards that are doled out more slowly.
So Blizzard has work to do to restore the fun to the game, and had quickly rolled back certain level restrictions for some endgame activities,
