Battlestar Galactica star James Callis reacts to the news of the upcoming reboot of the franchise. The Galactica franchise, which follows the human race locked in battle with the cybernetic Cylons, has had a long history, beginning with the original series created by Glen A. Larson. The franchise made an inauspicious debut, running for 1 season in 1978. However, it quickly showed its promise when it was followed more or less instantly by the 10-episode season Galactica 1980 in 1980. The franchise went dormant until 2003 when a 2-episode reboot miniseries was met with success and spawned a full series continuation that ran for four seasons between 2005 and 2008 starringKatee Sackhoff as the heroine Starbuck, James Callis as Dr. Gaius Baltar, and Tricia Helfer as the Cylon Number Six.
That version of Battlestar Galactica was accompanied by the TV movies Razor and The Plan and followed by the 2010 prequel series Caprica and the 2012 webseries Blood and Chrome. After that, the Battlestar Galactica franchise then appeared to have gone dormant yet again. That is, until September 2019, when Peacock announced their intention to produce a direct-to-series reboot with producer Sam Esmail, who had previously worked on Mr. Robot and Homecoming. They followed up this news in October 2020 by announcing that the series would have a tie-in film directed by X-Men: Dark Phoenix's Simon Kinberg, who most recently directed the Jessica Chastain spy thriller The 355.
