The Hulk is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, and even across the multiverse, though his most disgusting form places one truly bizarre limit on his powers– making his most god-like form his most useless.
Bruce Banner became the Hulk after being exposed to an explosion of gamma radiation, forever altering his biology and turning him into a raging, green monster any time he gets angry. Not only that, but Banner became permanently connected to a supernatural force of both light and dark, linking him to a temporary afterlife that is accessible through the haunting Green Door, effectively making Banner immortal so long as it remains open to him. While the Hulk’s expanded lore introduced to fans in the series Immortal Hulk may seem like a page out of a classic horror story, there is another version of the Hulk that exists in a hellish universe that is far more horrifying.

In Realm of Kings #1 by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, Leonardo Manco, and Mahmud Asrar, the cosmic hero Quasar finds himself in an alternate universe within Marvel’s expanded multiverse known as the Cancerverse. While in this dark world where everything and everyone is completely corrupted–including the Avengers who, here, are known as the Revengers–Quasar battles a Cthulu-like beast with monstrous teeth and giant tentacles. Even with all of the power of pure quantum energy, Quasar has trouble dealing with the monster. However, when the Revengers arrive, they make quick work of it, and once it is defeated, the creature morphs into a man they recognize as Bruce Banner.
