The name Infogrames will ring a bell for many gamers out there; the name appeared on many popular titles on pretty much every platform. Now, the brand is making a comeback. Atari has announced the revival of Infogrames as a new publishing label.
It'll publish and distribute games «that fall outside the core portfolio of IP associated with the Atari brand». The webpage also tells us it'll be managing its catalogue «by expanding digital and physical distribution», as well as developing «new collections and sequels». Game preservation is also a «core component of its mission».
Infogrames will begin building up its portfolio of IP and software «primarily through acquisition», the announcement continues. It's intended that the label will aim to secure legacy titles it originally published back in the 80s and 90s.
Speaking of acquisitions, it's also been announced that Infogrames has purchased the Totally Reliable Delivery Service games, along with related «trademarks and underlying property» from tinyBuild.
What do you think of the return of Infogrames? Roll up like an armadillo in the comments section below.
Stephen has been part of the Push Square team for over six years, bringing boundless enthusiasm and a deep knowledge of video games to his role as Assistant Editor. Having grown up playing every PlayStation console to date, he's developed an eclectic taste, with particular passion for indie games, arcade racers, and puzzlers. He's also our go-to guy for Sonic-related matters, much to his delight/chagrin.
Anyone else used to misread this name as Infogames? Just me? Takes me back to the 90's, ooft.
@Golem25 i did too.
So funny. Was reading the Top Spin review yesterday and had a little flash back to playing Advantage Tennis in the early 90’s. Remembered Infogrames for the first time in decades. And then today — serendipity.
If they bring back Hogs of war, I'll be a very happy man
Gotta give Atari props, they've been making some really positive changes lately.
