In the ongoing reports of whether or not Robert Pattinson‘s Batman character will be the Batman that exists in James Gunn‘s , Andy Muschietti has weighed in, throwing water on the idea.
Speaking during a recent appearance on Radio TU (via Reel Anarchy), Muschietti said that the Batman featured in his The Brave and the Bold movie will “belong” to the DCU, while Pattinson’s Batman, which is a part of Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise, won’t.
“As everyone knows, the Batman featured in The Brave and the Bold will belong to the new DC universe. It’s quite obvious that Matt Reeves’ Batman is not part of this new universe,” said Muschietti, who went on to say that “DC and Warner Bros. are moving forward with the second part of Reeves’ Batman series, which, as widely reported, is expected to release around 2027. This means the next Batman movie will take some time before it sees the light of day.”
Muschietti went on to note that the reason for The Brave and the Bold not coming out anytime soon is because it would be “counterproductive” to have two Batman movies release at the same time.
The director said that he continues to talk and develop his upcoming movie, which he also recently noted had been postponed.
“Releasing two Batman films simultaneously would be counterproductive,” Muschietti said. “What DC is doing is creating a strategy to ensure these two films don’t conflict with each other. Regarding my involvement in the project, there are good intentions for now. They want to do the movie with me, and I want to do it as well. I’m eager to work on the film. We are talking about the story and the tone.”
Reports of whether or not The Batman will eventually be folded into the DCU remain ongoing. Various insiders have both reported that James Gunn does intend to move Pattinson into his ongoing DCU, while others note that no decisions have been made at all.
