is “still happy” that got made even if it wasn’t a huge hit at the box office.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which is the fifth film in the Indiana Jones franchise, was released in United States theaters in June 2023. The only movie in the franchise that was not directed by Steven Spielberg, Dial of Destiny was instead helmed by Logan and A Complete Unknown’s James Mangold.
The film made approximately $384 million at the worldwide box office. According to an April 2024 report from Forbes, Disney lost around $134 million due to the film’s oversized budget.
Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Ford said that he was “still happy” he got to be part of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny even if it failed to find an audience.
“Sh-t happens,” Ford commented. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened. I’m still happy I made that movie.”
Indiana Jones 5 is currently available to stream on Disney+. The film also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Helena Shaw, Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Jürgen Voller, Antonio Banderas as Renaldo, John Rhys-Davies as Sallah, Toby Jones as Basil Shaw, Boyd Holbrook as Klaber, Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, Ethann Isidore as Teddy Kumar, and Anthony Ingruber as young Indiana Jones.
Ford will next be seen playing Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross/Red Hulk in Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World, which arrives on February 14, 2025.
