has kicked off its final episode with a bang by killing off one of the franchise's longest-running and beloved characters. has seen a roller coaster of 2024, leading off the Summer with the well-reviewed DLC, widely regarded as the best expansion in the franchise. This was followed by two episodes meant to wrap up the stories that have loose ends, but have largely failed and led to the lowest player count in the history of the game.
The third and final episode,, looks to change the narrative of this model. Even before the exciting first mission, this was arguably the episode most players had circled. This episode sees the return of the beloved Dreadnought location and seemingly 's first big bad, Oryx. The Hive has always been the most compelling of the enemy factions, so seeing how they are handling a Witness-free galaxy is intriguing to many.
The shocking moment of 's launch day was that Eris Morn was «killed» by an unknown member of the Dread. This has come much to the surprise of many players and the game's characters, especially thanks to the remarkable work from the voice actors of The Drifter reacting to it and Eris Morn saying her goodbyes. Her death has now sparked the main conflict of the season, a full-on assault on the Dreadnaught to figure out what is going on.
Make sure you know how to do the Past Is Prologue Event in Destiny 2 so you can be guided to all the Rewards it has to offer players like you.
The trick about this situation is after the mission, players are shown a cutscene of Eris Morn waking up in another location and laughing. This could be for two reasons. One is that last year she technically became a Hive God, so while she can be killed in the real world, she will persist in some way in her Throne World, if able to achieve one. The other option is that she finally received the death she felt she deserved, finally being at rest since the years she escaped Crota's pit.
Though 's story has remained solid, the episodes have been lackluster.
