Albion Online’s Horizons update, with big changes for the open world, will be out on October 28th.
The biggest changes in the update are designedto create a more engaging Outlands for the full range of players. Whether you are new to Albion or a vet, play mostly solo or in groups, seek out rewards, and explore widely, or stick to more familiar spots, there is something for you in the update. The team wants to make it easier to explore, and entice the adventurous into the furthest reaches of the open world for high risk and high reward situations. Rewards scale up, the closer you get to the center, with Tier 5+ mobs also offering more challenge and more potential loot.
Several features will help get people out into all corners. One is the introduction of S.A.F.E Portals. These will transport a solo player somewhere into the Outlands, avoiding potentially unsafe travel. Where you wind up will be within a certain range of the Portal town you started in, with a greater chance to come out in a less populated area. You’ll also get a return portal You can use within 90 minutes to return to where you came from.
Dynamic Encampments are set to expand the PvE options, with each offering a limited time quest (solo or grouped) to defeat some enemies, and claim a personal chest. Things like coffers and Lair maps are some of the things you might find in these camps. Camps will appear in various locations but you can only complete each one once, so you'll have to head out and try to find more. Group randomized dungeons get overhauled, with bonus rewards for groups, and an additional safeguard for smaller groups that means the dungeon entrance will close shortly after you enter.
Expect a number of quality of life changes, new Crystal Creatures, and new categories for the Albion Journal too. The journal now lets you complete Social and Guild tasks as well as ones for Islands. Crystal Beetles and Crystal Cobras arrive, and Crystal Spiders get much higher spawn rates.
