When the Lego Fortnite sets were announced, my kids were super excited about the Fortnite Battle Bus. All of the other Fortnite sets were very much displays sets, made for the most part to be put on a desk to be like that. But the Battle Bus, that was a set that could be played with. With tons of mini figures, and a really great build, it was sure to be a hit among collectors and young Fortnite fans. But with it’s decently hefty price tag, is it worth your time? Let’s take a look!
Unlike the other sets available for the Fortnite lineup, the Battle Bus is the one set that I look at and say, “This could be a great set for any kid, regardless of whether they like Fortnite or not.” And I think after getting this built, that argument rings true. Have you ever been to a LEGO store and built your own minifigures from the bin of parts they supply? You know what I’m talking about – pick a head, torso, legs, hair or hat, and accessory. All of the Fortnite characters included in this set – outside of Adventure Peely perhaps – feel like characters you could have made yourself at the LEGO Store. Throw in a really cool bus with a hot air balloon that lets it fly, and you’ve got a nifty LEGO set, regardless of the branding.
That being said, the branding here definitely helps. My kids are, and have been for a while, Fortnite fanatics. They know the characters, the bus of course is instantly recognizable to them, and they know the names of every character in the box without looking at the box itself. I don’t know how many times I had to hear my 10 year old say, “We have this skin too, dad!” Fortnite is basically foreign to me, coming onto the scene long after I would have had any internet in it. But my kids love it, which makes this Fortnite-LEGO partnership so brilliant.
Unlike the Peely Bone review we did, where we said the set was VERY complicated to build, my 10 year old was able to construct the Battle Bus all on his own. Stickers included! He struggled with a few things, and
