Apple TV+ has unveiled the first photos and release date for , an upcoming drama led by Oscar nominee Brian Tyree Henry which is based on Dennis Tafoya’s book of the same name.
The story of Dope Thief centers on two long-time Philly friends and delinquents. They pose as DEA agents in order to rob an unknown house in the countryside. However, they soon find that what was intended as a simple grift becomes a far more dangerous endeavor once they unintentionally put the spotlight on “the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern Seaboard”.
The crime drama adaptation will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, March 14, 2025. From there, new episodes every Friday through April 25.
Along with Henry, who is well known for his role as Paper Boi in Atlanta and his Oscar-nominated performance in the drama Causeway opposite Jennifer Lawrence, the Dope Thief cast includes Wagner Moura (Narcos, Civil War), Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy, Sneaky Pete), Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Prodigy, The Magnificent Meyersons), Nesta Cooper (See), Amir Arison (The Blacklist) and Golden Globe winner Ving Rhames, who is recognized for his role as Luther Stickell in the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Dope Thief hails from hails from Apple Studios. It was created and executive produced by Peter Craig, who wrote all eight episodes. Ridley Scott and Brian Tyree Henry are also among the executive producers. It is a Scott Free Production, with David W. Zucker, Richard Heus, Jordan Sheehan, Clayton Krueger, and Jennifer Wiley-Moxley also executive producing.
Apple TV+ is beginning to roll out its previews for the first batch of its 2025 shows. Along with the much-awaited Severance Season 2, which premieres January 17, the streamer recently unveiled the teaser for The Studio. Led by Seth Rogen, and releasing on March 25, The Studio focuses on Rogen as an embattled movie executive and features several cameos.
