The latest beta test for Once Human, from NetEase and Starry Studio, has seen such an enthusiastic response and high demand that the team is expanding the test from 20,000 to 50,000. However, in order to maintain a good experience for all, after December 13th, the test will go invite-only, so there’s a limited time to download and freely access the beta.
The team released a statement to Discord, grateful for the global interest for a beta they thought would be North America-focused. The beta has been played in over 100 countries, and with such interest, and a need to maintain the player experience, they announced their new policy and details on how it will work.
“In response to your enthusiasm and support, we have expanded the number of testers from 20,000 to 50,000. However, we also face certain difficulties. Under the current server testing conditions, we have found that the pressure to maintain continuous access is extremely high, which may affect the testing experience for existing players”
You can go to the Once Human website and access the game via the download portal freely until December 13th at 4 PM PST/ 1 PM EST. All existing players will still be able to access the game and play their characters. After this deadline, you will need to fill out a questionnaire and wait for an activation code to be sent to you. Every week, the team will select 3,000 players to invite from those that fill out the interest form and send codes and a new download link on Fridays.
The team is trying to balance the demand and the worldwide positive feedback with limited capacity and a desire to maintain the player experience as they test the game and help the devs to polish things up.
