A U.S. Senator Has Criticized Apple For Pulling Down Beeper Mini’s iMessage Feature For Android, Says Such Companies Are ‘Protecting Profits’
After Apple confirmed that it had shut down Beeper Mini’s iMessage feature for Android smartphones, it caught the attention of U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren. Her latest post revealed that she is against firms such as the Cupertino giant and others who wish to generate profits by taking out the competition.
At the end of the post published on X, Warren says that ‘Chatting between different platforms should be easy and secure,’ and while we agree with that statement in general terms, we should point out that Apple will be adopting RCS in 2024. Also, as reported by AppleInsider, Beeper Mini’s iMessage feature for Android required the app to actually pretend to be an Apple device and provide fake credentials to the company’s servers so that those messages could be passed between Android handsets.
Obviously, Apple would not allow this to happen under any circumstances since it would compromise the safety and privacy of iPhone users who actually take advantage of iMessage. Beeper Mini has claimed that its app is secure and uses end-to-end encryption between participants, just like iMessage, but at the end of the day, it is just a claim, and a future security incident can simply turn those words into hot air.
