Since the mention of a new limited job in Dawntrail, many speculated the same thing about what it could be, and these have been confirmed: the second limited job, releasing later in the patches, will be Beastmaster.
Even though we did not get anything more than a name, there is still a lot for what to expect from Beastmaster in FFXIV Dawntrail.
We can garner a lot about Beastmaster solely from its predecessor in the realm of limited jobs: Blue Mage. Blue Mage was all about running around the overworld collecting spells from different mobs. Beastmaster can safely be assumed to be the same thing, but with capturing and using certain mobs in combat. This also adds up with its precedence in other Final Fantasy titles being about the same premise.
Beastmaster is already a canon job in FFXIV. The legion of Garlemald, AKA the one that conquered and ruled Dalmasca and Bozja, has a whole Beast Army worth of Beastmasters. We fought them multiple times during the Bozjan Southern Front skirmishes. Ran’jit from Shadowbringers has also long been speculated to be a Beastmaster of sorts due to his serpent companion. If these existing examples of Beastmasters tell us anything, it’s that we can expect to command hounds and serpents at the very least.

Going further into what to expect from Beastmaster in FFXIV Dawntrail, if Beastmaster follows the rules of Blue Mage, that means it will start from level one, level up through capturing beasts, and have its own exclusive gear sets and full questline. It also won’t level up to maximum, either. We can expect Beastmaster to be added during patches instead of per expansion with every non-limited job.
