A new $80 Call of Duty item has been blasted by fans of the shooter franchise.
The item, which is a BEAST Glove inspired by the new Kong x Godzilla film, is acquired by purchasing four separate skin packs in-game.
The glove is a melee weapon that can be equipped as part of a loadout and is only accessible to players who’ve purchased all four separate skin packs.
Each of these packs, which include operator skins and weapons inspired by the film, costs $20.
In a Reddit thread titled, “I got the BEAST Glove so you don’t have to”, players who’ve purchased the item have been sharing their experience with it, and it’s not positive.
While players have blasted the item for “doing nothing,” that’s not technically true. While it may be little comfort to players that have spent $80 to acquire it, the weapon does come with a unique inspection animation.
“Holy f*** it was not worth it,” wrote one Reddit user. “I thought it would at least ragdoll enemies, if not corpse launch them.”
Activision claims to have banned over 27,000 Call of Duty accounts over the weekend.
The company said improved detection systems and fresh security updates are helping it root out bad actors, and that players should expect further ban waves.
The latest wave followed last week’s launch of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3, and coincided with a free multiplayer trial which ran from April 4-8.
Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3 includes six new core 6v6 multiplayer maps, with four available since launch and two arriving mid-season.
Warzone Season 3’s headline addition is the return of fan favourite map Rebirth Island alongside Resurgence mode, which let players respawn as long as one of their teammates is still alive.
