2023 Game Tops Sales Chart in Steam Debut

Publisher Deep Silver originally announced the Dead Island sequel in 2011. 12 years and three development studios later, Dead Island 2 finally debuted to decent reviews last spring. However, the PC version of the open-world action RPG launched as a timed Epic Games Store exclusive.
Just a day following its first release anniversary, Dead Island 2 finally reached Steam on April 22. It took no time to establish itself as a massive hit on Valve's PC storefront, having debuted at the top of its Top Sellers chart. While its name may suggest otherwise, this list takes all recent forms of revenue into account, ranging from sales of game copies to subscriptions and other types of microtransactions. It's hence not unusual to see it topped by free-to-play titles, but the evergreen performer Counter-Strike 2 is currently below both Helldivers 2 andDead Island 2.

The zombie RPG's Steam debut arrives less than a week after Dambuster treated Dead Island 2 to its second story DLC. Titled SoLA, the $14.99 expansion adds roughly three hours of content to the game, in addition to introducing two new enemy variants and a pair of Legendary weapons, as well as a new location to explore. Both SoLA and the rest of Dead Island 2's existing post-launch content have made its way to Steam alongside the base game.
