@colonelkilgore ok, that’s good to know. This episode with Lud and Zallen (and really all the DLC enemies/bosses) has made me interested in weapon and ability systems that have a wide variety of builds and approaches that you can take. I mean, all RPGs have a progression system, but some are just a linear system to get the best abilities or weapons. Experimenting with different weapons and buffs, and yet being able to stay within my own build (no respec necessary) was oddly intriguing and satisfying. It feels good when you discover a combination that is really effective. I guess if there’s one thing that the DLCs forced me to do it was to expand my horizons. Demon’s Souls, DS1, and Bloodborne didn’t even really make me completely rethink my approach like this one has. Granted, some of the reason for DS2 forcing you to be more malleable with your build is because the game cheats and trolls you so extensively with gank squads and completely abnormal hit boxes. So I can see why many people dislike the things it does. But I think it does more good than it does bad.
@Th3solution funny you should mention build variety actually, as when I look back on Monster Hunter Worlds I think the fact that I was unprepared to change tactics was my undoing. I managed to get through the first 5-10 hunts but then I came up against a beast that my weapon just had absolutely zero effect on. Rather than do a bit of research (which is something that I’d do in such a situation today) I just thought **** it
