In the Peacemaker season 1 finale, Peacemaker defeats the Butterflies and kills their cow, but Peacemaker does not kill the Butterfly Leader, known as Goff. Peacemaker was introduced in James Gunn’s 2021 The Suicide Squad and was shown as a shallow and obnoxious eventual antagonist. However, Peacemaker has developed the character to make Peacemaker complex, nuanced, and strangely sympathetic.
In Peacemaker episode 8, “It’s Cow Or Never,” Peacemaker and his team head to the barn to take out the cow, thus stopping production of their food source for the planet. Between the efforts of the team and the use of the sonic boom Peacemaker helmet to destroy the barn, all but two of the Butterflies and the cow are defeated. The Goff Butterfly, now in the body of Sophie Song (Annie Chang) makes an impassioned speech to ask Peacemaker to help save their kind and the planet from Humanity. Peacemaker is not convinced by the human cost and wants to protect his friends so uses Adebayo to kill the cow and shoots Locke (Christopher Heyerdahl) in the head, but he shoots Song/Goff in the chest, preserving the Butterfly and only killing the host body.

The Butterflies’ plan in Peacemaker has a similar problem to Thanos’ in the MCU where they have identified a legitimate problem that needs a solution, but the solution they are enacting removes free will and requires the death of innocent people.
