Now streaming on Disney+, The Defenders and The Punisher center around heroic and radically different vigilantes, prompting the question: who is the strongest? From a victim-turned-savior to a spoiled rich kid-turned-warrior, each of the four Defenders and Punisher bring drastically different abilities, and trauma, to streaming through their individual series. Despite getting cancelled after just a few seasons on Netflix, the Marvel shows’ shift to Disney+ and the likelihood of integrating with the Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought a new wave of attention to these characters.
Daredevil, centering around lawyer Matt Murdock, was first to debut in April of 2015, with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, the alias of Danny Rand, following suit. Punisher, or Frank Castle, was the last to get his own show after appearing throughout Season 2 of Daredevil. While the characters – minus Punisher – came together in the 2017 series The Defenders, each of their unique abilities is most prominently showcased throughout their separate series.

Each character could be considered the mightiest depending on which specific talents and abilities are prioritized. When it comes to their powers, however, there is one important aspect that separates these vigilante superhero Defenders: genetic enhancements. Both Luke and Jessica are genetically modified, giving them traditional superhero-like powers. Where these two differ is in Jessica’s breadth of abilities in both physical and psychological strength. While she may not be the most skilled combatant in the group, Jessica’s range of enhanced capabilities makes her the most powerful.
