Obsidian can only be found in by traveling to the Dry Valley biome, specifically in its caves filled with lava. To see this biome, you must keep exploring the map until you come across an area with sand darker than the beachy Shores biome, along with tall cliffs, stone pillars, and many cacti. Starting from Lost Isles, it took me around 15-to-20 minutes of running about the map to find a Dry Valley biome.
Like finding Klombo in , there are extra steps to success. You next need to find a cave entrance like the one I found pictured above. Since these biomes can be quite large, the caves can be hard to spot, but you can identify any caves you missed by going onto your map and looking for a cave icon before setting it as a destination for a customer marker.
Once you're in a cave, the next step is to keep exploring its depths until you find Obsidian deposits as black minerals on its walls and ceilings. These may take a bit of trial and error since caves are also filled with other treasures like the Rough Ruby material, Brightcore, or Copper. If you're figuring out how to get Pirate weapons, you'll need many alternative materials to craft these.
To beat the heat in Dry Valley and the caves, you can stay cool by eating a Snowberry or Snowberry Shake, which unlocks temporary heat resistance.
