Ubisoft used the Summer Game Fest stage to announce the first new Prince of Persia game in more than a decade, titled Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The debut trailer promised more details at Ubisoft Forward, and that promise paid off with a much more in-depth look at the game.
After an animated trailer that showed the prince, Sargon, using stylish moves to deal with a variety of mythical beasts. The stage presentation then moved onto a live demonstration of the platforming and exploration. We also got a look at combat abilities against mythical beasts like giants and chimeras. Time power is making its return, which we saw both in combat and platforming applications. But some enemies appear to have time powers of their own, which you'll need to learn how to counter if you want to survive.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is unrelated to the Sands of Time remake being developed by Ubisoft Montreal. That game has been hit by a series of delays, and is still said to be at an early stage. This new game is inspired by Persian mythology and uses a metroidvania structure, as Sargon solves puzzles to explore the mysterious Mount Qaf. The soundtrack is being composed by Iranian-born Mentrix, alongside Gareth Coker.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on January 18, 2024.
