Valheim Player Creates Working Sundial
Iron Gate Studio's Valheim continues to be updated through its early access phase, and much of the content that players have been exploring revolves around the building mechanic. One Valheim player has decided to create a sundial to more effectively track the in-game time than the in-game popups, and it actually works.
Reddit user Abaconsandwich recently shared an image of their Valheim sundial that tracks time between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM in an open area outside their base. Like with other survival games that include a day/night cycle such as Minecraft, Ark: Survival Evolved, and Grounded, Valheim has a limited time in which the sun is out before nighttime takes over the map and makes doing some things far more difficult. Because of the duration of a day varying from one survival game to the next, Abaconsandwich sundial may help Valheim fans avoid the dreaded run through the Black Forest at night.

Abaconsandwich's sundial is visibly located in the Valheim's Meadows biome which is the first that players will visit, and it has about 21 wooden poles of two different lengths. A tower of these wooden poles acts as the shadow caster in Abaconsandwich's sundial which shows the dark line pointing towards before noon at the time of their screenshot. Noting that each object in Valheim casts a shadow, Abaconsandwich realized that they could track the trajectory of the in-game sun using this sundial method, though another Reddit user has created an alternate method of telling time in the survival game.
