The creative director behind the upcoming Gotham Knights has recently hinted that one of the game’s key villains could be revealed in the coming weeks. WB Montreal’s newest DC Comics-based open-world action title will begin its story with the apparent death of Batman, leaving a team of his former protégés in charge of protecting Gotham City from its latest threat — a secret society known as the Court of Owls and its zombie-like Talon enforcers.
While the Court is the main enemy that Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin will face off against in Gotham Knights, WB Montreal’s take on Gotham City will have no shortage of other powerful supervillains for players to thwart. The icy Mr. Freeze was spotted battling Batgirl and Robin in some of the first Gotham Knights gameplay footage to be shown off following its announcement in 2020, and a later trailer would confirm that The Penguin would also be around to cause trouble for the titular Gotham Knights. Other clues have pointed to Two-Face and Ra’s Al Ghul appearing in Gotham Knights, but WB Montreal recently confirmed that Batman’s archnemesis The Joker won’t be showing up. This last revelation has led to some speculation that Harley Quinn could pop up to spread humor and chaos in her former boyfriend’s stead in Gotham Knights, though this idea remains controversial to fans who prefer her more recent roles as an unlikely antihero who has finally broken free of the Clown Prince of Crime’s toxic influence.
